About Us

Mission Statement

To bring about awareness and appreciation for the hinterland backwaters of Goa and the Konkan region by providing an informative and sustainable model of cruise-based eco-tourism that supports local communities as well as promotes conservation of marine habitats. Goa's 'Mother River', as Mandovi is known, is a cultural, ecological and anthropological symbol of the state. Sea Eagle cruises seamlessly weaves these vital aspects together to provide a first-of-its-kind experience along the river's tranquil waters.


Kiran Thakur

WildernestKiran Dhondopant (Alias Baburao) Thakur was born in Belgaum on 7th April 1952 and was brought up there. A science graduate, his tilt for journalism started at a young age, for which he completed his Diploma in Journalism from Rajendra Prasad College of Mass Communications, Mumbai.

He started his Journalistic career as a Sports Reporter in 1968 with his father’s newspaper “Tarun Bharat”. He became the Chief Reporter and then Executive Editor of the newspaper in 1973. He took over as the Editor in 1979, which gave Tarun Bharat the needed modernization.

He brought Offset Printers, Photo Typesetting, Laser Printers, Color Scanners and computers to the premises, which changed the way paper is published and later by the number of readers in Belgaum and neighbouring parts. He moved the strides of Tarun Bharat by starting Goa and Sindhudurg edition in 1983. Kholapur and Sangli editions in 1990. Followed by Satara and Ratnagiri editions in 1995. He even launched ‘Newslink’ – English daily in 1987. The internet edition of the newspaper was clicked in 1999. With all the efforts of the years Tarun Bharat has become the No. 1 daily and household name in Belgaum, Goa, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts. It is growing from strength in Kholapur, Sangli and Satara districts. He has attended a tour of Germany arranged by the German government and International Organizations for Asian journalists.

Kiran Thakur has a strong presence in the field of education with memberships to many governing bodies. He is the Vice-President of Belgaum Jilha Prathamik Shikshan Samitee which runs schools and colleges. He is a member of Governing Council of South Konkan Education Society, Vice Chairman – RPD College of Arts and Science and GSS College, Chariman – Agricultural Research Centre, Member – Indira Gandhi Open University Centre, Belgaum, President – Dnyan Prabhodhan Mandir School.

He has an eye for social work by organizing youth, adoption of backward villages, running an ambulance, spreading literacy, and participating in festivals and cultural shows. He is one of the founder members of Venugram Paryavaran Sangh – an NGO working for the protection of the environment. He is the Chairman – Lokmanya Co-op Credit Society and Tarun Bharat Trust.

Kiran Thakur has been recognized for his work and given awards and prizes for his humble work like Dr. N. B. Parulekar Award and Acharya Atre Award for journalism; S. V. Kirloskar Trust Award; Raosaheb Gogte Award for Entrepreneurship, Vocational Award from Rotary Club for Outstanding performance in educational field, Shahu Award (Ichalkaranji), A. A. Desai Award for excellence in social education.


Captain Nitin Dhond

WildernestCaptain Nitin Pandurang Dhond is a Merchant Navy Captain and has passed out from the prestigious Naval academy, T. S. Rajendra in 1977-78. He has to his credit the distinction of working with international companies like Mobil Oil, Reliance, etc. and has undertaken special assignments like Ship to ship transfers operation of LPG tankers, dry docking LPG tankers for Varun Shipping Ltd.

He spearheaded Tarun Bharat Group of Companies, from 1987 to 1991. Capt. Nitin is also the Managing Director of Rachana InfoTech, a software company developing marine, banking, newspaper ERP software and robotic solutions.

Presently he commands one of largest LPG tankers under the Indian flag.

WildernestA nature lover Captain Nitin divides his time between the sea and Wildernest Nature resort, which is his other dream project and one of India’s leading eco tel.

As part of a group, which established the Mhadei Research Center, one of the first field research stations in the region, his work has been recognized by state as national agencies. In 2010 he was awarded the Konkan Ratna award.
